I was fighting my way through tangled coastal bushland near Sydney’s North Head and was stopped in my battles by a pretty little wattle. The sun’s backlighting shone straight through the curled pods revealing the young seeds inside. It wasn’t until much later that I discovered this to be a highly endangered form of the species and one which has its own National Recovery Plan. So this image now evokes feelings for me of “hidden gold” or “lost treasure”. Although I still love the way the two pods curl together and the mesmerising glow of the little “peas” growing within.
