Water Fern – Ltd Ed Fine Art Print by Esther Beaton

The ferns are ancient plants, the diet of dinosaurs. They don’t exactly have seeds but spores. It was unusual to come across this individual plant which had a rare specialised structure grown just for carrying spores. The spore capsules were so dense along the stalk that it was forced to bend into a pattern of circles and whorls. In my treatment, I retained the natural bronze colour of the spores which contrasted so well against the green rainforest background.
