The bird with the strange red “wattles” hanging below its ears is the Red Wattlebird. It is the second largest of the honeyeaters, a group of birds who have their stronghold in Australia. I wanted this picture of an adult bringing food to a hidden nest to have an atmosphere that says “Australia”: the drooping grey-green eucalyptus leaves, the smooth bark of the gum trees and the warm colours.
